Behind The Badge was a project with the aim at getting the community of Apex to connect with the Apex Police Department. This book was the result of teamwork between the department and Promotional Partners. Officer Carter was our go between for getting the Chief on board and gather officers who wanted to participate.
From there Promotional Partners Owner, Olivia Scott, and I were able to compile anecdotes and photo references for each officer. While Olivia started working on a script for the book, I began hand-drawing all the officers, backgrounds, and cover. Once all the text was ready, I complied everything into spreads and made sure it was print ready before sending to our partner for printing.
These Books were an immediate hit with the community, and since the initial order, the department has had to reorder twice. While every officer keeps a handful of books in their patrol cars, a lot are given out at events in the community where kids can get all the officers they meet to sign their books on the Autograph Pages.
The success of the books made it's way to Ohio. The Chief of the Shaker Heights Police Department contacted Promotional Partners looking to get a similar style book for their department. With the Apex book being our test run, getting this book made was a much smoother process. The Department loved the end result and uses the books to promote reading and literacy to the children in the community.
